About this client:
Belle is a high achieving young woman with a passion for life. In September she returns to university to begin a post graduate course and now needs a *female communication support worker/ assistant with a good sense of humour, patience and enthusiasm to join her dedicated 24- hour support team. Your verbal and written communication skills must be excellent. Belle has a complex physical disability and for communication relies on hearing aids and lip reading throughout her waking day. In addition, she has dysarthric speech which means her verbalisations are unclear except to those who know her well. This means she uses an electronic communication aid for many interactions, but also relies on her communication support assistant to translate what she says verbally when spontaneity is key.  Belle’s physical disability means you will provide academic and administrative support as directed, as well as personal care, whilst on shift.

Overview of role:
Besides studying Belle regularly speaks at conferences and workshops about life with a communication impairment and physical disability. No two days are the same, Belle leads a busy life, she loves travelling (passport required), keeping fit, socialising and enjoys entertaining. You should like food and cooking! Based in York, Belle lives in her own home which you will help to keep running smoothly. You will join a great team who work with her on a 1-1 basis around the clock (including at least one sleeping night per week), for some activities you will also work with another team member.

Who this job would suit:
Apart from being a female graduate and a driver, only life experience is needed. What is important is your personality! You need to be calm, patient, and level-headed, love to laugh, have a sense of adventure, want to be busy and be willing to facilitate and empower Belle to have the life she wants.

What’s great about this job:
In return, you will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support. Starting salary: £26,390.00 gross per annum  ( 35 waking hours per week) plus weekend and overnight sleeping supplements. Pension. Meals on shift. Full time permanent position, part time considered for the right applicant.
