About this client/child:
Dean is a fabulous 16-year-old young man who is very outgoing. He loves to chat and is always saying hello to people he knows locally; he rarely forgets a face! Some of his favourite things to do are cooking, running, cycling, dog walking, cinema trips and going to restaurants/cafes. Dean is autistic and has ADHD. Dean previously struggled with anxiety but can now better manage his emotions; his talking and listening skills have improved and he finds it easier to rationalise any changes. Dean’s younger sister Penny is 14 and they share a great relationship – Dean thinks the world of her!

Overview of role:
We are looking for a Support Worker to assist mainly with Dean’s after-school care. Once you arrive there will be some light housekeeping, for example assisting with Dean’s laundry and preparing his tea. You will then collect Dean from school at around 3.25 pm (5-minute car journey or 20-minute walk). Once Dean is home it is dinner time and then engaging with activities such as tutoring with his academic work, going to a youth club, or some physical sport or training. Throughout these activities focusing on Dean’s communication, independence/life skills and social skills are key. Penny is very self-sufficient but you will also be preparing tea for her too. Whilst a driver is not essential, it is preferable as Dean likes going for drives sometimes and sees this as a good mechanism for calming his anxiety. (An automatic car would be available to use on duty). The family is offering £20.00 gross per hour on experience.

Who this job would suit:
This is a fantastic role for someone who has great hands-on autism experience who is confident working with teenagers. Ideally, we are looking for candidates with some tutoring experience and who are sporty in nature as this will help when engaging with Dean. A non-smoker/vaper is a must, and a driver would be preferable.

What’s great about this job:
Dean is a fabulous young man to work with who will bring you plenty of smiles. The family, who are long-standing clients of Snap Care, are incredibly warm and engaging so it will be a lovely environment to work in. The family enjoys having their own time during school holidays so you will not always be required, in turn, you will receive on average 7 to 9 weeks holiday per year.

Who is recruiting for this role?
Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews.
