Title: Support Worker
Location: Swindon, SN4
Nearest Station: Swindon
Wage/Salary: Up to £18.00 Gross Per Hour
Driver Essential? Yes – manual car provided when on duty (automatic will be purchased in the near future so should be happy to drive both)
Essential: Care experience in a private home environment, working with a child with physical disabilities and
experience of working with other professionals, eg. OT, physio. Non-smoker / vaper
Desirable: NVQ Level 2 in Care or above and experience working with a young person with ASC
Start Date: ASAP
Days & Hours: Term Time: Tuesday to Friday 4.00 pm to 7.30 pm & one Saturday per month 2.00 pm to 7.30 pm. Additional hours available in the school holidays (Please see below)

About this client/child:
Dan aged 12, is a cheerful and engaging young man who enjoys horse riding, swimming, music, electronic devices, and games.
He dislikes the rain and any unplanned changes to his routines. Dan has a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy due to a birth injury. He also has a learning disability and a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC). Dan walks with a K-Walker indoors and uses a wheelchair for outdoor mobility. He is verbal but also uses Widgit symbols and visual stories for more complex language/comprehension.

Overview of role:
As Dan’s Support Worker, you will assist with his after-school routine which will involve supervision of mobility, assistance with school therapeutic activities, preparing tea, personal care and preparing Dan for bed. During the school holidays, there will be additional hours available that will focus on helping Dan organise his day and assist with social and leisure activities. Shifts during school holidays will be 8.30 am to 7.30 pm Tuesday to Friday, some flexibility will be required depending on the activities arranged. The hourly rates offered are £16.00 for weekdays and £18.00 gross per hour for weekends.

This role will suit a Support Worker who is fun, pro-active, and confident. Experience wise we are looking for candidates with prior experience working in a home environment with a child with a physical disability and someone who is accustomed to working closely with other professionals.

As Dan’s Support Worker you will have the opportunity to accompany him and his family on holidays in the UK as well as abroad. All mandatory training and refreshers are included, and you will receive therapy-specific training from Dan’s physio, OT, SALT and music therapist.
