About this client/child:
Kevin aged 15, loves swimming, walking and being around people. He also loves books being read to him. Kevin has cerebral palsy, epilepsy and requires 24-hour care. Kevin is a full-time wheelchair user. He has a standing frame both at school and at home. He is non-verbal and communicates via his communication book for school. Kevin is tube fed and experiences severe reflux so can become quite sick at night.

Overview of role:
Kevin has an established bedtime routine. The Waking Night Support Worker will put Kevin to bed, settle him and make sure that he is sleeping comfortably and safely. This will involve ensuring he has the appropriate medication and milk feed via his Gastrostomy and closely monitoring for any occasional seizures via his sleep system. You will be required to carry out Kevin’s personal care, reposition him through the night and ensure his hand and leg splints are put on niggly. His temperature will also need to be monitored every hour. During the night you will have access to your own kitchen in Kevin’s room. There is also a TV that the carers can use whilst they work and a desk to work from once Kevin is settled. The family try and go away every half term and for 5 weeks in the summer holiday so ideally looking for someone who could travel with them depending on your other work commitments. The family can offer up to two nights per week but if you are only available for one night the family are still keen to hear from you.
