About this client/child:
Tommy aged 2 has a very sweet nature with a smile and laugh that can light up your whole day. He has an older brother aged 4 who is incredibly chatty and a new-born sister who has recently joined the family. Tommy has a rare genetic syndrome which causes global development delay, low muscle tone, epilepsy and learning difficulties. His epilepsy is currently controlled (now over 1 year seizure free). He requires help in all aspects of day-to-day life – he is not yet mobile and cannot sit unaided. He is also non-verbal but does vocalise and communicate in other ways.

Overview of role:
We are looking for a SEN Nanny to work alongside mum and muck in with family life. The primary focus of your role will be to help care for Tommy, although rolling your sleeves up and helping with the other two children and the house in general is a must. You will support Tommy moving from position to position and assist with his feeding, nappy changing and bathing. In addition, he will require support in his therapy sessions and developmental groups. Ideally the family are looking for a SEN Nanny to help with the morning and early evening routines, Monday to Friday. However, they are open to discussion around this and for the right person they can be flexible – for example, 3 full days per week to fit in with other commitments.  They are willing to offer between £15.00 to £18.00 gross per hour depending on experience.

Who this job would suit:
This is a role for someone who has a keen interest in special needs and early years development. You must be calm in an emergency, able to multi-task and be used to looking after multiple children. A driver is essential for the role, a car (automatic) will be provided for the Nanny to use when on duty.

What’s great about this job:
For the right person, this role will be incredibly rewarding as you will be playing a very active role in Tommy’s development.  This is a great opportunity to gain more experience and undertake training from specialist physios, speech and language therapists and other professionals involved in Tommy’s care.
