About this client/child:
Our client Ben is 12 years old, living at home with Mum, Dad, and his brother and sister. He is supported at home and in school by a team of support workers, therapists, and waking night carers. Ben is a bright and engaging little boy and has cerebral palsy and developmental delay which affects him physically. Ben uses Eye Gaze to support his communication. He is fed and has his medication administered via a gastrostomy and is completely dependent on others for all of his personal care, feeding and mobilisation.

Overview of role:
As Ben’s Senior Support Worker you will assist with his afterschool routine, plan and organise activities he can enjoy with his siblings, provide hands-on practical support with personal care, medication, homework, feeding, preparing pureed feeds, and also assist with implementing his therapy programmes. The family is ideally looking for someone who can offer support on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday but they will also consider candidates who can offer fewer shifts. On Friday there is an earlier 2.00 pm start as the Support Worker will be required to drive Ben home from school.  Additional hours are available during weekends and school holidays. For the right candidate, there is the potential for you to be upskilled to become a team leader level.

Term Time: afternoon shifts 3.30 pm to 7.30 pm (Earlier 2.00 pm start on a Friday)
Alternate weekends: Saturday 8.30 am to 6.00 pm and Sunday 9.30 am to 7.30 pm
School Holidays: 8.30 am to 7.30 pm

Who this job would suit:
Ben is looking for a confident and energetic Support Worker who has previous experience caring for a child with complex care needs, however an aptitude for hands-on learning is key and a willingness to learn on the job, coupled with a true passion for working with children would suit this position. This is a permanent role so we are looking for a long-term commitment.

What’s great about this job:
This is a flexible role and we will work with a suitable applicant’s availability. There is the potential to be trained to a team leader level.
