Title: Buddy / Personal Assistant
Location: Reading, RG6
Nearest Tube/Station: Reading
Wage/Salary: £910.00 gross per 7 days
Driver Essential? No
Essential: This role is open to *female applicants only.
No experience is necessary, but flexibility and initiative are key attributes as well as a willingness to be involved in student life. Non-smoker/vaper.
Start Date: Mid to late September 2022
Days & Hours: 7 days on, then 7 days off. Approximately 35 hours a week. Term-time only
Family/Client Pets: None
Accommodation: Own (lockable) bedroom
and ensuite in campus flat shared with Charlotte and 3 other students.
Recruiter: Rachael Rachael@snapcare.co.uk

About this client/child:
Charlotte is 20 and a 3rd year Speech and Language Therapy student at Reading University. Charlotte enjoys all the things that a typical 20-year-old would. She does not smoke and can drive. Charlotte has Hemiplegia and Hip dysplasia and needs assistance to enable her to access everything her university and student life has to offer. Charlotte’s help needs are non-intimate and no lifting is required; Charlotte gets around on her mobility scooter. What she needs help with is largely dictated by her pain levels which can change daily so no day will be the same.

Overview of role:
This role is for 2 people, each working 7 days on, and 7 days off. A typical day may involve helping Charlotte to get organised for lectures, helping to cook and generally being a supportive person; encouraging and assisting with Charlotte’s physio exercises, and accompanying her around campus. The salary is £130.00 gross per day, (£910.00 gross for the 7 days). The hours will be approximately 35 a week, due to the nature of the job, times will vary depending on Charlotte’s needs and activities planned. (She is not an early riser for example, so on the weekends/non-college days, it may be a later start time!).

Who this job would suit:
We are looking for 2 *female Buddy / Personal Assistants who are positive, bubbly, and energetic; someone who will enjoy being involved with student life. You’ll understand the boundaries between employer and employee but also be easy-going and friendly. You’ll be flexible to accommodate Charlotte’s needs and allow her to be spontaneous. The Buddy/PA needs to ‘blends in’, so age is a genuine occupational requirement (GOP) & suit someone of a similar age. Maybe you are looking for a gap year experience, experience in the care sector within a young environment, perhaps to make a competitive application to medical school.

What’s great about this job:
This is a unique and genuinely rewarding opportunity. You have your own room and ensuite, and there’s a good size kitchen with full cooking and storage facilities. It is an attractive campus with lots of green space and shops. An enjoyable perk of this role will be to accompany Charlotte to the local Nirvana spa where she enjoys the hydrotherapy pools!
