About this client/child:
Theo (13) is an affectionate young man who enjoys watching nursery rhymes on his iPad, being active, going on trips and swimming. Theo has Autism and Dravet syndrome which presents with seizures and developmental delay, causing difficulties with speech, motor skills and a learning disability. Theo’s speech is limited but he can clearly express his likes and dislikes. He can present with behaviour that challenges and you have to be able to spot the triggers and de-escalate any difficult situations. Theo’s medications are administered via a PEG. He is mobile and can walk unaided however for longer journeys uses a wheelchair. 

Overview of role
As a Waking Night Carer you will support Theo during the night routine. You will observe and monitor his seizures via a monitor in an adjoining room, administer medication, provide personal care and ensure he gets as much rest as possible. Theo is awake frequently during the night and will often try to leave his bed; you’ll need to be calm, patient and consistent to help encourage him to settle back into bed. You will need to be available to work Sunday - Wednesday 3 nights shifts per week from 10.00pm to 7.30am, rotas will be provided in advance for you to plan around. Flexibility will be required for holiday and sickness covers.. Rates: £16.00 gross per hour weekday, £16.50 gross per hour weekends

You will have a good understanding of working in a small team within a family environment and respect the family’s privacy. This is a permanent role, and we are looking for a Waking Night Carer who would like to commit to a long-term position and provide consistency and continuity for Theo and his family.

Theo is an adorable chap who will be a pleasure to work with and you will have the opportunity to be involved in developing the best night-time routine for Theo.
