About this client:
Arthur (13) is an affectionate young man who enjoys watching nursery rhymes on his iPad, being active, going on trips and swimming. Arthur has Autism and Dravet syndrome which presents with seizures and intellectual disability, causing difficulties with speech, motor skills and understanding.  Arthur’s speech is limited but he can clearly express his likes and dislikes. He can present with behaviour that challenges and you have to be able to spot the triggers and de-escalate any difficult situations. Arthur’s medications are administered via a PEG. He is mobile and can walk unaided however for longer journeys uses a wheelchair. 


Overview of role:
In this role you will be required to support Arthur during his weekend routine. You will take him to the park, swimming and plan fun trips and activities. You will assist Arthur with personal care, administer medication and monitor his seizures. You will be expected to work 4 Saturday or Sunday shifts per month from 09.00am to 7.30/8.00pm. £16.50 gross per hour. It would be desirable if there was certain flexibility to work extra shifts during school holidays and any staff sickness or holiday cover as required (day shifts).   


Who this job would suit:
This role will be great for a fun, creative, energetic Support Worker who works on their own initiative. You will have a good understanding of working in a small team and family environment and respect the family’s privacy. 
Being caring, reliable, and proactive is essential as well as having a great understanding autism and knowing how to de-escalate behaviour that may challenge.

This role provides excellent training opportunities including epilepsy and PEG feeding. You’ll have great support from the Team Leader who knows Arthur very well. Arthur is an adorable chap who will be a pleasure to work with. This is a permanent role and we are looking for a great Support Worker who would like to commit to a long-term position and provide consistency and continuity for Arthur and his family.
