About this client/child:
Freddie aged 7 loves laughter. He is tickled pink by songs, music, images and textures. He enjoys interactive games and physical play, including swimming, trampolines and spinning around. Buses, trains, cars and exploring new places are high on his list of favourite things. Freddie has complex needs including autism and a severe learning disability. He expresses himself with a speech-generating device, visuals, Makaton and gesture. Freddie’s self-care skills continue to develop; some things he does independently and with others he needs prompting and/or hand-over-hand support.
Overview of role:
As Freddie’s SEN Nanny / Manny you will be a key member of his learning and development team. You’ll be involved in his target setting and progress reviews at school. You’ll pick him up from his specialist school, take him to an activity or playground, and then home for dinner and bath. During these times you will engage Freddie in activities to achieve his targets. These may be related to expressing himself, interacting, recognising emotions, reading and counting. Freddie has a limited diet, and all his meals are prepared at home. The core hours during the week are 3.00pm to 8.00pm. There is the option to do a longer day on the weekend and have a day off in the week. Additional hours are for batch cooking, making learning tools, attending meetings with therapists and babysitting.
Who this job would suit:
This role is ideal for a TA/LSA who has worked in a specialist school with learners who have autism and a severe learning disability who now seek to gain experience working with a family in an educational and care-giving role. During term time, the hours are skewed to after school allowing pursuit of other initiatives, such as part-time study towards a degree or certification.
What’s great about this job:
Training is available from family and his school. Other training to support your work with Freddie can also be negotiated with family. The family will offer a performance-based annual bonus.
