About this client/child:
Sam aged 17 loves to be with people and enjoys being out and about. Sam was involved in a road traffic accident and as a result has complex needs including epilepsy, physical and learning disabilities. Sam communicates using non-verbal facial expressions, vocalisations, and movements. You will know when Sam is happy as he will express through laughter, smiling and arm movements. Sam requires supportive seating and is wheelchair dependent for his mobility. He is fed via a PEG and requires full support for all personal care and activities of daily living. Sam has also recently started following a ketogenic diet and has a VNS in place to help to assist with management of his seizures.

Overview of role:
As Sam’s Support Worker, you will assist his parents with meeting his care and medical needs, particularly relating to his epilepsy. You will play an active role in all his therapeutic activities and support Sam to participate in all areas of daily living and accessing the community. The role offers an average of 26 hours a week, across 7 days, following a two weekly Rota. This will include morning, afternoon, evening and waking night shifts. The role offers up to £14.00 gross during the weekday and up to £17.00 gross per hour during weekends, depending on experience. There is also the opportunity to pick up additional shifts throughout the year.

Who this job would suit:
We are looking for a Support Worker who is pro-active, physically fit, who has an encouraging approach, patience, and a willingness to learn. You must be able to communicate effectively and remain calm in difficult situations. Prior experience working with children/adults with complex needs is important but full training will be provided.
