Driver Essential? Yes
Essential: At least 3 years’ experience in a similar support role and be experienced assisting with physiotherapy. Non-smoker and confident swimmer.
Desirable: Experience of brain injury and experience working with clients using ReWalk robotics would be an advantage. Full training however will be provided
Start Date: ASAP
Days & Hours: Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm (The family would consider the role to be split into two part time roles so please enquire).

About this client/child:
Ali is a 28-year-old young man who enjoys football, swimming, cycling, the gym and music. Ali has an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) due to a vitamin D deficiency from when he was 12 years old. Up until July 2020 he was fully dependent on his manual wheelchair but has recently been introduced to using leg robotics which are enabling him to walk with aids. Ali also has type 1 diabetes and is epileptic. His condition is well controlled via the use of medication.

Overview of role:
We are looking for a Support Worker to assist and motivate Ali to live safely within his busy family household and help him access the community. You will support him with on-going rehabilitation programmes and work alongside therapists and other healthcare professionals. This will include assisting Ali with ReWalk Exoskeleton robotics – leg robotics that are strapped to his legs enabling him to walk. Full training will be provided by his Physiotherapist. Other tasks will involve assisting with cooking, household tasks, planning, budgeting and attending weekly gym, hydrotherapy and cycling sessions. A degree of flexibility with notice will be required as sometimes Ali will want to attend evening activities, such as meals out or going to the cinema. There is the option for this to be split into two part time roles so please enquire. The rate offered for weekdays is up to £20.00 gross per hour.

Who this job would suit:
This role will would suit an experienced Support worker who is happy to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and be a good team player. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with clients with brain injury and be well organised, energetic, positive and enthusiastic about life. You must have a full UK driving license, an automatic car will be provided for use when on duty.
