Maya aged 13 is a very cheerful child who loves music and singing. She is very happy going on public transport and enjoys outings out especially to art galleries. Maya has a diagnosis of Autism which presents mainly with sensory challenges and difficulty in regulating emotions. She can have the odd meltdown when she gets overwhelmed (sudden loud noises), but this is becoming less and less. Maya receives OT support at school and is working on her fine and gross motor skills. Maya is fairly independent but sometimes needs help with certain activities but can communicate her need for help.

Overview of role:
We are looking for a SEN Nanny who can assist with Maya’s after school care and support with her after school activities Monday to Thursday. If someone had the flexibility the family can also offer additional hours in the morning (7.00am to 8.30am). Maya loves routine and a visual timetable works really well for her. The key things to work on with Maya will be socialization, zones of regulation, independence and life skills. The family are also hoping to organise swimming after school one day a week as she currently a non-swimmer. Part of your role will also involve preparing Maya’s evening meal. During the school holidays the hours are extended, and this is a great time to arrange activities further afield. Whilst it is preferred for candidate to be a driver with own use of car, for the right candidate there may be the option of providing use of a car whilst on duty.

Who this job would suit:
We are looking for a SEN Nanny who is experienced working with children who are autistic. You should be able to communicate effectively to help develop Maya’s communication and social interaction skills. Personality wise we are looking for candidates who are outgoing, confident and who enjoy getting involved in activities. Maya loves learning languages and is currently learning Spanish, if someone knew a second language this would be a bonus.

What’s great about this job:
This is a great opportunity to join a friendly family and support Maya as she heads into her teenage years. You will have the opportunity to travel with the family on holiday and bespoke training can be arranged through the council.
