About this client/child:
Owen aged 13, is a charming, sociable, and active boy with the biggest smile. He loves skiing, swimming, music, Disney films, being out and about and spending time with his siblings and family. He attends an amazing specialist school which he really enjoys. Owen sustained a brain injury at birth and presents with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. He is a full-time wheelchair user and is cared for 2:1 with full manual handling needs. He can eat orally but all his food needs to be blended. Although Owen is non-verbal, he can clearly express his likes and dislikes through vocalisations. Assisted technology is also slowly being introduced to Owen by his speech and language therapist and the Support Workers will have the opportunity to get involved with this.

Overview of role:
We are looking for a full team of Support Workers to assist with Owen’s after school routine. You will be engaging with his therapy programmes, supporting the family with mealtimes, assisting with his personal care and enabling Owen to access the world around him whilst promoting his independence. You will also be assisting with domestic tasks related to Owen. There will always be two members of staff on shift and currently agency staff are employed for all the nights. *We are looking for multiple Support Workers so it’s not essential that everyone who applies is a driver, but at least two drivers will be needed amongst the team. During the weekends and school holidays there are extended hours which is great time to engage Owen with lots of fun activities. **Available Shifts: Term Time Monday to Friday 2.00pm to 9.00pm. School Holiday & weekend shifts: 9.00am to 9.00pm
Rates offered are £13.00 during weekdays and £15.00 gross per hour during weekends.

Who this job would suit:
This role will suit a cheerful, caring and proactive Support Worker with strong communication skills. All candidates will need to have experience working with a child of a similar age and it is essential that you are a non-smoker/vaper for this position.
