Essential: Willingness to work with children/young people with additional needs. Must be physically fit in relation to manual handling and be confident to drive an adapted vehicle.
Desirable: Confident using moving and handling equipment. Happy to wear face masks as PPE when assisting with clients personal care.

About this client/child:
Penny aged 14 enjoys music, being read stories, sensory and creative activities and attending hydrotherapy. Penny has cerebral palsy, a learning disability, epilepsy and a visual impairment.  She communicates by laughing, smiling and making "chatty" noises if she is happy. Penny is a full-time wheelchair user and has a PEG in place for all her nutritional and fluid needs. The family home is adapted to meet her needs, including the provision of moving and handling equipment and a therapy/playroom.

Overview of role:
As Penny’s Support Worker you work alongside her parents, other support workers and therapists within the family environment. You will assist with all her personal care needs, developmental, therapeutic, mobility and social and leisure needs. Part of your role will be facilitating Penny to access sensory play and supporting her with therapeutic activities/programmes and trips out. This will include driving a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) at times. The role offers a 4-week rolling Rota, comprising of a mx of after school shifts during the week, day shifts at the weekend and night shifts. *Typical shifts would be After school hours: 4.00pm to 8.00 pm/9.30 pm and Weekends: 9.30am to 9.30pm. Sleeping Nights: 9.15pm to 8.30am. Additional hours are incorporated into the role during school holidays. Please get in touch with your availability.  The rate offered is £13.00 to £14.00 depending on experience. National Living Wage per hour for sleeping nights.

This role will suit someone with a cheerful, caring and positive attitude. Whilst prior experience working in the disability field would be a bonus, having the right personality is key! All candidates should be physically fit to meet Penny’s manual handling needs and you should also be confident taking Penny out in her adapted vehicle. (Automatic).
